Trustworthy and Reliable Auto Repair Advice and Guidance from an Experienced Team of Professional Technicians

Repair Checker provides clients with the peace of mind that their auto repairs are fair and comparable instead of being overcharged for parts or unnecessary extra labor.

No one likes having their vehicle stuck in a repair shop. Instead of relying on your personal car to manage your day-to-day needs, you have to spend extra time and money on repairs that may not be necessary. While your local auto service provider’s role is to explain all the repairs you need, there is a conflict of interest when they are incentivized to sell as much as possible to increase profits. This is why many extended warranty companies and vehicle manufacturers utilize third-party inspectors to review repair jobs and why claim adjusters exist to ensure you are charged the correct price. This is where Repair Checker can help. We offer our clients insights and advice on their expensive car repairs from a team of experienced industry professionals who know a reasonable rate compared to a shop trying to take advantage of the situation.

The Repair Checker Advantage

Experienced Technicians

Most of our consultants are current or previous ASE master technicians and/or factory certified technicians with over 20 years of experience working in the industry.

Savings

With automotive repair labor rates as high as $200/hour, it takes very little for you to get overcharged. We compare your estimated labor charges to standard labor guides to ensure you’re only paying for what you get. We also help lower the chance of a misdiagnosis by conducting interviews to ensure your needs are being met.

Information

After working with our expert team, you’ll receive a detailed report of what your car needs to be repaired and what a fair, comparable cost should be in your area. This empowers you to walk away from those shops attempting to overcharge you and discover new opportunities with trustworthy technicians.

Our Repair Checker Process

  • The client places an order.
  • Contact the client within 1 business day to discuss the vehicle’s symptoms and gather information to help prevent any misdiagnosis.
  • Review the estimate client received and compare labor charges to check for any overlapping amounts.
  • Double-check for any technical service bulletins related to the vehicle and compare recommended services to factory maintenance schedules.
  • We then call the repair facility to Schedule a virtual inspection of your vehicle. We verify the suggested repairs and diagnostic steps performed. If our expert feels a step was missed or a known problem exists, we will inform them. If we see discrepancies with the labor estimate, we will ask them to provide a valid reason for the excessive charges. Please understand that we will not diagnose vehicles over the phone.
  • After we complete our evaluation, the client receives a detailed report with our findings and recommendations so they can make an informed decision.

We also provide other report services based on your needs available on our services page. In addition, we are happy to offer a verbal explanation for an additional fee. Our goal is to have every order completed within 2 business days so you can get your car fixed at a reasonable price and back on the road sooner than later.

Why Hire Repair Checker?

It’s simple, we provide the peace of mind so many clients need when working with new repair shops. Most clients have little to no mechanical experience, and it can be challenging and overwhelming to make a decision without knowing all the factors involved. The service provider behind most shop counters tends not to be a professional mechanic and is not equipped to answer all the questions clients may have.

Meaningful information about the vehicle’s symptoms is often overlooked, which could help with the diagnostic procedure. For example, the symptom only happens after it rains or after a previous repair was made. Most experienced advisors know some of the common problems that come into the shop, but they are also at the mercy of the information the technician gives them.

Most of the time, repair shops are not in the business of knowingly ripping off a customer, but that doesn’t mean they don’t employ some not-so-honest technicians. If you add a dishonest technician and a service advisor with little to no mechanical knowledge, you can get a situation where unneeded repairs are sold.

Tips to Help Avoid Paying for Unneeded Auto Repair!

  • Don't be afraid to ask questions

The more information you can gather, the better. For example, if you have your car serviced for an oil change and the shop is trying to sell you an oil leak diagnosis, you should ask what steps were involved in reaching that conclusion. The car is already in the shop and on the lift. What exactly are they charging you for?

  • Ask them to show you what the problem is

An honest repair shop should have no problem taking you back and showing you precisely what is wrong. Have them point out the problem and explain why you need the repair.

  • Follow your owners manual when it comes to maintenance

Engine tolerances have become tighter and oil technology has improved. Gone are the days of changing your oil every 3000 miles. Some places will sell you fluid change services that may not be needed or even advised by the manufacturer.

  • Get a second opinion

If you feel like you are being taken advantage of by a shop, take your car somewhere else and get a second opinion. Even better, sign up for our service and hear from expert technicians who know the industry and what price is appropriate.

  • Ask to save your old parts when you first bring your car in for repairs

When you are upfront about keeping any old parts, a technician may be less likely to sell you an unneeded repair. This gives you a chance to ensure all the work is done and no one is hanging onto new parts that weren’t installed. I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen a drawer full of new parts in a toolbox.

  • Do a little research

We are all busy, but it never hurts doing a little research about what your potential repair should entail. For example, the image below the brake pads on the left should be replaced the ones on the right are new. Provided you're not having any other symptoms like noise or vibrations while braking any pads thicker then two quarters do not need to be replaced.
